What are wheel locks?
Wheel locks are specialized lug nuts designed to prevent the theft or unauthorized removal of your wheels. Working like conventional lug nuts to bolt wheels to a motor vehicle, they come in a variety of sizes and configurations to support installation on most vehicles. Most installations require the use of four wheel locks - one for each wheel, while the rest of the tire's lug nuts can be of the conventional type.

Like the lock to your front door, wheel locks require a properly cut key to use. This key is a specialized socket that attaches to a standard lug wrench and properly seats onto the wheel lock, allowing it to be loosened or tightened. A regular lug socket will not seat onto a wheel lock,

thus preventing the removal of that lug nut without the key, and as a result, preventing your wheels from being removed from the vehicle.

For many car owners, their custom chrome plated wheels are a source of immense pride, which also increase the financial value of a car. Proper security for these vehicle modifications is of vital essence. Car owners can help to discourage and ultimately prevent theft by using wheel locks.

Usually, lug nuts can be loosened and removed with an ordinary lug wrench to change a tire, rotate tires, access the brakes, and perform other acts of car maintenance. Wheel locks were developed to be easily removed, provided you have the key, so this type of work can still be performed easily.

Types of wheel locks?

All wheel locks work in the same way, and provide the best solution to wheel theft. The main difference is in the keys. There are two types of keys in use today, please note that both key types may not be available for your application. The key types are...

Puzzle Key
Socket Key

Puzzle Key - Puzzle key wheel locks have a computer generated design laser cut into the top of a round post. The corresponding relief is cut into the key providing a one-of-a-kind set and solution. The round post prevents a standard socket from getting grip on the lug.

Socket Key - Socket key wheel locks are also made from a round post, but this time, a computer randomly generates a groove pattern which is cut into the nut lengthwise. The correstonding relief is cut into the inside surface of the key. No socket could get grip on this lug without the proper series of peaks.
