CalChrome 5 layer chrome - All layers
Base Material

A quality chrome plating starts with a quality wheel. The base material of a chrome plated wheel is almost always an aluminum alloy, or steel.

Before any kind of chroming can begin, the wheel has to be taken down to this layer of material. Most wheels have several layers of paint or similar coatings that must first be completely removed to ensure proper deposition.

California Chrome Wheel uses a chemical stripping method that does not alter the base material in any way. Some chrome shops use bead or sand blasting to remove the paint. This method will actually cause deformities in the base material resulting in pitting and uneven surfaces.

Once stripped each wheel is hand polished to get the base material as even as possible. Its this extra time taken at the very beginning of the process that separates CalChrome from the crowd.
