Black Chrome Quick Info
Black Chrome utilizes a proprietary dry method of applying metals and clear coats. It is a combination of two processes, Sputter Deposition and Powder Coat.
Sputter Deposition is a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) method of depositing thin films of metals by electro-statically charging the metals and sputtering or ejecting (vaporizing) metals from a target or source inside a vacuum chamber (to reduce contamination), which then deposits these metals onto the wheel or substrate.

Chrome Plated (Middle),
and Silver Painted Wheels (Top Right)
After the metals are applied to the wheel in the vacuum chamber, a clear coat finish of finely ground particles of clear and/or colored pigments and resin is then electro-statically charged and applied on top of the metals. This powder coating is then baked in a curing oven until melted and fused into a solid and durable coating.
Due to the nature of the processing, some inclusions (air bubbles and / or fish eyes) may appear on each wheel in the clear coat. These inclusions are normal. Inclusions are not considered to be a defect and do not effect the longevity of the chrome finish. The Black Chrome process works best on flat faced wheels with a small or no lip. It is difficult to get coverage on wheels with deep lips.
What kind of wheels and parts can be finished in Black Chrome?
Due to the manufacturing techniques required to apply the Black Chrome finish, we will ONLY process your one-piece aluminum alloy wheels. We do not offer Black Chrome on multi-piece wheels, plastic or metal parts, or accessories.
If you need assistance in determining what wheel style / design you have, please refer to our wheel type guide.

Competition vs. CalChrome
At California Chrome Wheel Inc., we have worked very hard to develop our black chrome product. It is of utmost importance to us, that the black chrome finish be as high quality as possible, and to share in the unique properties of bright chrome.
As is plainly visible in the examples above the competitors black chrome has a very poor surface quality, with pits and an "Orange Peel" texture to the entire surface, as well as a brown hue to the reflections. CalChrome's wheel on the other hand, has a smooth, highly reflective surface, with a lustre that only comes from true chrome plating.
